Port Blair, Jan 10: I am aware of the Gazette Notification published by the IP&T and the issues that followed. Its not a major problem said the Chief Secretary Shri Vivek Rae, while talking to the media persons on 9th Jan 2010. “The notification can be amended anytime in consultation with the Secretary IP”, Rae said. Referring to the report of Jaiswal Committee which was constituted by the A&N Administration to study the advertisement release pattern, the CS said that it will be re-examined and necessary action will be taken.
The Chief Secretary’s words came as a blessing in disguise to the small private newspapers functioning in the islands. The local newspapers have been fighting for their right of advertisement for the past one and a half year but there were certain manipulations done by the IP&T Department which releases advertisements to the newspapers by misleading the senior officials of A&N Administration.
