Draughtsman Remanded to Judicial Custody in Bribery Case

Port Blair, July 29: On receipt of a written complaint that Shri Dinesh Chandra Biswas, Draughtsman, CD-I, APWD, Port Blair was demanding Rs.5000/- for issuing the supply order to the lowest quotationer, a case was registered in Police Station Anti-Corruption, Port Blair under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act. A trap was laid on 27.07.2010 by the team headed by Inspr. K. Devadas alongwith ASI Viswanand, HC Abdul Nazir, HC Muthu Kannan and PC Sanjeev Kumar and two independent witnesses. The draughtsman Shri Dinesh Chandra Biswas was caught red handed with Rs.5000/- bribe money in front of the two independent witnesses in the office of the Construction Division-I, APWD, Port Blair. After completion of the legal formalities the accused Dinesh Chandra Biswas S/o N.K. Biswas aged 35 years was arrested and subsequently produced in the court and was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Trapping a public servant red handedly with bribe money will have much deterrent effect on the corrupt practices. Anti-Corruption Unit, Port Blair requires the help of public in trapping corrupt public servants. Hence, public are requested to lodge complaint with the Anti-Corruption Unit in case of demand of bribe by any public servant for lawful acts. and through website of Anti-Corruption Unit www.and.nic.in/acvu. Specific information regarding disproportionate assets of government servants is also invited. The whistle blowers are having protection as per the CVC guidelines.
