LG unveils Nautical Memorial at Ross, dedicates it to the Nation PDF Print E-mail

Port Blair, Aug. 11: A Nautical Memorial “The Lone Sailor” – ‘Silent Sentinel of the Sea on Eternal Vigil’ has come up at Ross Island. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today unveiled the memorial and dedicated it to the Nation. Since the A&N Islands are an epitome of the supreme sacrifices and the heroic deeds of our valiant people who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle of our country, as such this very befitting memorial located ideally at the mouth of Port Blair harbour will rekindle the spirit of patriotism and nationalism amongst the coming generations in the years ahead. The construction of the memorial was part of the ongoing restoration and repair activities undertaken on Ross Island by the Andaman Nicobar Command. Ross Island has become one of the favourite places of tourist attraction and an integral part of the itinerary of tourists visiting the Islands. 
 
The Chief Secretary, Shri Vivek Rae, Commander-in-Chief, ANC, Vice Admiral D. K. Joshi, YSM, NM, VSM, senior civil and defence officers were also present on the occasion.
