Port Blair, Aug 13: The Elections to Panchayats and Port Blair Municiapl Council will be held in these islands on the 19th of next month. This was announced by the Director Panchayat and Municipal Elections, Shri SN Jha at a press conference toady. He also announced the schedule for the ensuing elections on the occasion. According to this, the notification for the General Election to Panchayats and Municipal Council will be issued on 20.08.2010, last date for making nominations is 27.08.2010, the date for the scrutiny of nominations 28.08.2010, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures 30.08.2010, the date of counting of votes on 21.09.2010 and the date before which the election shall be completed 24.09.2010. Shri Jha said the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect from tomorrow (Aug 13). He urged all political parties, Contesting Candidates and their Election Agents to strictly comply with the provisions of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Prevention of Defacement of Property Regulation, 1987 in its true letter and spirit to avoid legal consequences.

The Director, P&ME said that Police Station wise teams have been constituted for enforcement of MCC and the Andaman & Nicobar islands Prevention of Defacement of Property Regulation, 1987. Any violation of defacement of property Regulation or MCC may be informed to the Office of the Director of Panchayat and Municipal Elections (Deputy Commissioner, South Andamans). The Sr. Superintendent of Police, Shri V. Renganathan was also present on the occasion.
