Training for Presiding, Polling Officers Held |

Port Blair, Aug. 22: The first round of training for Presiding and Polling Officers (PPOs) of Port Blair (Panchayat areas) for the ensuing Panchayat and Municipal Elections was conducted in the Dr. B R Ambedkar Auditorium here today in which all the ROs, AROs and PPOs of the areas were present. The objective of the training was to acquaint the officials of the poll process as well as their duties and responsibilities during the conduct of elections. During the training programme, the PPOs were also imparted hands on training on ballot boxes and other election materials to be used during the election. Ballot boxes are to be used for polling for Panchayats and Electronic Voting Machines for the Municipal Election.
The Director of Panchayat and Municipal Elections, Shri S N Jha elaborated the election process, duties and responsibilities of the PPOs while conducting the election. He advised them to pay attention to the training programme and to equip themselves with election process, so as to conduct the election without difficulty. They were also advised to go through the handbooks and manuals provided to them to enhance their knowledge about election process.
A power point presentation on preparation of ballot boxes was also held during the training session. At the same time, manual demonstration on preparation, opening, closing and sealing of ballot boxes was also conducted during the training programme.
