Constitution of local bodies in Nicobar to be completed by April 2011

Port Blair, Aug 31: The District Administration of Nicobar has drawn up a tentative schedule for carrying out various activities including the process of constitution of local bodies viz. Village Councils and Island Councils, which would be completed by April 30, 2011.
This is being done to implement the provisions prescribed in the A&N Islands (Tribal Council) Regulation 2009 which has come into force with its proclamation by the Ministry of Law & Justice (Legislative Department), GoI in December last. This has been formulated by providing them with greater autonomy as per the directions of the GoI, Election Commission for UTs and UT Administration.
