Rohin’s Successfully Conducts its 2nd Toric Lens Surgery PDF Print E-mail

Port Blair, Aug. 31: The second cataract surgery using cylindrical toric lens was conducted at Rohin’s Eye Hospital yesterday. The surgery was conducted by Dr. Rohinder Lal, Surgeon and owner of Rohin’s Eye Hospital. 
 
Briefing the media at a press conference organized at Fortune’s Bay Resort yesterday evening, Dr. Rohinder Lall said, “With the use of modern advances in eye surgery available in his hospital, the people of Andamans need not go to the mainland and spend huge amount of money”. 
 
“Toric lens (cylindrical) is the latest used in cataract surgery”, he said. This technology came to the India almost a year ago. Not many hospitals in the country has it and Andaman is blessed to have the technology available. 
 
Alcon is the company which manufactures the lens. It comes in a package, which includes lens and all the surgerical equipments used during the operation. Even the surgical knife is a disposable one, which that the patient does not catch any infection, Dr. Lall said.  
 
Rohin’s hospital has been conducting free eye camps in the islands, where patients are selected for surgery. In the case of BPL patients the cost is the minimum, with special subsidy offered by the hospital. 
 
There are different packages in cataract surgery, Dr. Lall explained. Accordingly the multifocal lens cost will be Rs. 48,000/-, Toric lens cost is Rs. 30,000/-, Premium lens is Rs. 20,000/- and other lens (rigid lens) will cost Rs. 4,500/-. The package includes the cost of medicines, surgery, hospital rent etc.
