Says Enhancement in Old aged, Widow, Handicapped, Aganwadi Worker/Helper is Meager

Port Blair, Sept. 5: Under the Parliamentary procedure under Rule 377 recommended enhancement of Pension1Honorariun © Rs. 1000/- in A & N Islands. The Standing Committee Home recommended enhancement of Pension/Honorarium @ Rs. 1000/- at par with Delhi & Goa Government. In spite of these, the Administration proposed enhancement of the same to hardly to Rs. 500/-.

Pointing out the issue, the Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray in a letter to the Lt. Governor said, the beneficiaries of Old age, Widow, Handicapped, Aganwadi Worker! Helper etc. are abusing, scolding, threatening, over phone regarding proposed increase assuming it as a Bhiksha, (Tips) given by the Administration. The Administration, particularly the adamant attitude shown by the Secretary Social Welfare has resulted in the meager enhancement which has spread a wrong message among the Islanders.

The Member of Parliament further pointed out that the A&N Administration spends Rs. 50,000/- per head per year annually. At the same time, the Principal Secretary Education had enhanced the payment of ‘Part Time Teachers’ from Rs. 2000/- to 5000/-.

“As a Member of Parliament, I have raised these issues in Parliament, in Parliamentary committees, and with the Administration several times. I personally met the Senior Officer of A&N Administration and your Good self for reasonable enhancement. I’m sorry to mention that the A&N Administration did an excellent achievement in various sectors except the Department of Social Welfare, particularly due to the Secretary Social Welfare, time and again. We notice her attitude as Anti Poor”.

Ray further repeated that the proposed enhancement is not justifiable to which he has personally lodged his protest to Secretary, Social Welfare, for her arrogant behavior with negative mind set. The MP therefore requested that reasonable enhancement be extended to the weaker section of above categories urgently.
