Port Blair, Sept. 6: The existing 33 KV Double Circuit overhead line of Electricity Department connecting IPP Bambooflat and Garacharma Sub-Station for evacuating 20 MW Power has sustained extensive damages due to Earthquake & Tsunami on 26.12.2004.

The Electricity Department therefore proposes Rectification/Re-strengthening of existing transmission line which has been approved under Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme by Govt. of India during 2006. As per the rectification plan the affected high tension poles due to Sea inundation at Saithankhari, Dundas Point, Dollygunj and Attam Pahad, will be replaced by constructing 66 KV High tension towers. The Electricity Department also proposes to construct new 33 KV Double Circuit line parallel to the existing line for transmitting power from IPP, Bambooflat to Chatham Power House through a combination of UG cable and sea tower configuration to strengthen the power supply reliability to Port Blair capital city.

The Ministry of Environment & Forest has accorded CRZ clearance to the project and the copies are available with Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Board and may be seen in the website of MoEF at http://www.envfor.nic.in and also in the website of A&N Administration at http://www.electricity.and.nic.in
