Port Blair, Sept. 6: For promoting organic farming in these islands Department of Agriculture is going to establish vermi-culture hatcheries in the Govt. farms throughout the islands. Department will create the required infrastructure and provide tools/implements and other requirements for running the hatcheries. Registered Non Govt. Organizations/Self Help Groups/Farmers’ Cooperatives (NGO/SHG/FC) are invited to run & maintain the hatcheries after executing agreement with the department. The interested NGO/SHG/FC may submit their willingness to the Joint Director (Agri), Directorate of Agriculture through the concerned Zonal Officers on or before 30.09.2010 for selection. List of departmental farms where hatcheries are proposed to be established is available with the Zonal officers. NGO/SHG/FC already engaged for construction of vermi-compost unit will be given preference for running the hatcheries. 
 
Besides if any NGO/SHG/FC/ Agri. Clinics/individual is interested to establish vermi-hatchery of their own will be extended 50% assistance subject to a maximum of Rs. 75,000/- per hatchery on establishment of hatchery as per the operational guidelines of the National Project on Organic Farming. Interested party may submit their project proposal through the Zonal Officer concerned on or before 30.09.2010.
