Port Blair, Dec. 27: The XXIIIrd “Road Safety week” will be observed from 1st to 7th January 2011. The purpose of Road Safety week is to make people understand the importance of Road Safety. The Theme Of The Road Safety Week is “Accident Bring Tears, Safety Bring Cheer”, as thousands of persons get killed and thousands more are seriously injured every year in road accident causing loss of human life as well as loss of properties. The traffic police requests the general public to participate enthusiastically in the celebration.
During the Road Safety Week, the Andaman & Nicobar Police has chalked out a number of road safety activities as well proactive enforcement drives. During the week the following programmes shall be organized:-
A Blood Donation camp will be held at Fire Brigade Head Quarter on the 1st Jan 2012 at 1030 hrs. during which a large number of donors are expected to participate for the good cause. Organizations such as Auto Union/ Taxi Union/ Bus Drivers’ Union and Pvt. Trucks Union/ State Transport Service Department, Police, IRBn will be participating. The general public are requested to come forward to donate blood.
Educational classes will be conducted for the Govt. and private drivers followed by an Eye Test Camp, which is to be held at the Fire Brigade Head Quarter on the 2nd Jan 2011 from 1030 to 12000 hrs. Medical team from G.B. Pant Hospital will conduct free eye testing for the drivers who attend the camp. Simultaneously on the same day there will be lectures by Police officers on Road Safety from 1000 to 1100 hrs at JNRM College and Govt. Sr. Sec School Haddo, Hindi medium respectively.
