MILAN - 2012 Commences With Arrival of Foreign Ships

Port Blair, Feb. 1: MILAN 2012, commenced today with the arrival of foreign ships at Port Blair which marked the beginning of the mega event. On arrival the ships were given the traditional Naval welcome at the Naval Wharf. 

MILAN is a biennial congregation of Littoral Navies of the Asia-Pacific region. This year fourteen foreign countries are participating viz. Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The mega event will encompass a wide gamut of social and cultural exchange activities aimed at fostering better understanding and bonhomie between our littorals. The event offers tremendous scope for showcasing the Indian Armed Forces at the international stage and allows for cultural exchange between the nations.

1993: Foundation Stone laid for Bridge Over Austin Strait

 The rare picture shows the foundation stone being laid for construction of bridge over Austin Strait by the then Lt. Governor, Late. Lt. Gen. Ranjit Singh Dayal in the presence of Shri Umashankar Singh.
