Admiral Nirmal Verma to Visit Andaman Nicobar Command

Port Blair, Feb. 1: Admiral Nirmal Verma, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) and Chief of the Naval Staff will arrive Port Blair on 02 Feb 12, on a visit to the Andaman & Nicobar Command. Admiral Nirmal Verma took over the reins of the Indian Navy on 31 August 2009 and as Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) on 29 July 2011.

During his visit to the Command, the Admiral would participate in MILAN-12, a biennial congregation of Navies at Port Blair featuring Naval Ships and delegations of 14 countries representing Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The Admiral would also interact with the CINCAN and all officers of the Command, visit Naval Air Station, Campbell Bay and have interactions with the troops. During the visit, CNS would also address the international seminar on ‘Capacity Building Through Maritime Cooperation’ to be held on 03 Feb 12 as part of MILAN - 12.

Husband Sentenced for Life

Port Blair, Feb. 1: The Ld. Court of Additional Sessions Judge has convicted the accused Para Toppo on 25/01/2012 in Sessions Case No. 63 of 2010 (S.T. No. 800 of 2010) for commission of offence u/s 302 IPC for committing murder of his wife.

The accused Para Toppo was residing alongwith his wife and three children at R.P.R.S. Colony, Campbell Bay. He had a doubt in his mind that his wife Smti. Perfulith Minj is having extra marital relationship. On 03/08/2010 the accused Para Toppo took up a dah and inflicted blows on the neck of his wife in the presence of his children namely Poonam Toppo and Vishal Toppo, Kumari. Poonam Toppo rushed to the house of her maternal uncle Thordius Barwa and informed the incident of murder of her mother by her father Para Toppo. Thordius Barwa immediately came to the house of accused Para Toppo and found Smt. Perfulith Minj lying on the floor of the house under pool of blood and she was dead.

Shri. Thordius Barwa reported the incident to the police of Campbell Bay and police rushed to the place of occurrence and recorded the statement of Thordius Barwa on the basis of which a FIR No. 46 of 2010 was been registered against Para Toppo on 03/08/2010 at about 2230 hours. Subsequently after investigation of the case, the Police of Campbell Bay submitted a charge sheet against Para Toppo vide charge sheet no. 50 of 2010 dated 13/10/2010 against Para Toppo.

During the trial of the case the prosecution has examined as many as 17 witnesses and the defence did not adduce any evidence. After hearing the argument of Ld. Additional Public Prosecutor Mr. N.A. Khan and Defence Counsel, The Ld. Additional Sessions Judge Mr. Sribash Chandrs Das have sentenced the accused to rigorous imprisonment for life with fine of Rs. 2000/- in default to suffer simple imprisonment for 02 months.
